It was finally time to decided the patterns and garment designs I was going to use. This is my final garment design.

The shorts and cropped jacket relates back to the streetwear/grunge vibe that I-D magazine has. The tassels on the sleeves replicates the many pages in the magazine, the eye shapes on the shorts replicate the iconic wink on the front cover. This is also the case for the eye pattern fabric, the shibori pattern is a replicate of the closed eyes in the wink but a more abstract version of this.

I then moved onto creating the patterns, this was quite easy and straight forward just a lot of measuring for how baggy I wanted the shirts but also measuring where I wanted the cropped jacket to end as I did still want it to cover the chest area.

I also had to think about what waistband I want as I had planned for a petersham waistband but I realised this wouldn't give me the low rise effect I wanted to so opted for a facing waistband instead.

I then started to toile the jacket. This really helped understand how long it was going to take me to construct the garments but also what I needed to be aware of when creating the garment. I learnt that I really liked the 3 then 2 then 3 structure of the tassels as it created a fuller look so I will be doing this in the actual garment.

I then started creating my toile for my shorts this was pretty simple as I knew how to this already I just needed to practise how to sew the shorts together and be able to leave the front seam open to attach a zip in. This also helped me understand how long constructing the shorts will take me so I could time plan accordingly.

Once my toilets were constructed I then had to create lay plans so I could order my fabric and know how much I needed. This was a little tricky to complete as I had to think a lot about the different types of material I wanted as I wanted denim for the shirts and cotton twill for the jacket and there's two different patterns on each garment. So I ended up needing four different laypans.
