Beginning of this week I decided to move onto the designing process which meant I was keeping on top of my plan. I started off by creating a Moodboard of different dirndls and kilts to help me have a clearer vision. This helped a lot as I was already thinking of design ideas
I then started designing and drawing my ideas, from these intuitively designs I could then develop more on them and create extra designs. I then choose a few of my faviourite designs and combined them together to create too developed designs.
Th eject dsy I decided to talk to one of my tutors to have her opinion on my designs and how I could improve. This discussion made me realise I needed s more wow factor as I was only creating one outfit, at the end of this I also want to create s magazine so having a more extravagant outfit would look a lot better. This is where I came up with the idea of a outfit that created a transformation and perhaps several outfits in one.
To start designing how my dress would do this I decided to start toiling one of my developed designs and hem visually design the transformation aspect.
The next task was to start creating my patterns so I could start the toiling process. I started off creating my full circle skirt pattern as this was going to be the most challenging part because I had never created one before.
This surprisingly went really smoothly and the pattern came out really well, I then moved onto creating the bodice and blouse patterns which was relatively simple, I just had to keep checking that the bodice neckline was lower than the blouse as I wanted the blouse to be seen.
Next i moved onto toiling which was a really easy process, there was a few patterns I needed to alter like my bodice patterns needed a dart in to create a better fit onto a body. I also wanted the belt/bow to be longer so I had to alter this pattern and create it longer. Overall I’m really happy with how the toile went and think it looks really good, it has also created a really clear vision in my head how my dress will now look.
Using the toil to visually deisgn was really useful and I have decided on using welt pockets to create the transformation aspect of the over skirt.
Another thing I need to bare in mind is when I’m doing the pleats on the overksirt is to draw them out first so that they are straight.
See below to see the different aspects of my outfit! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
I then planned to order my fabric on the weekend so I had to do my lay plan on Friday so I could figure out how much of each fabric I needed.
In total I have three different fabrics so I needed to create different layplans.
Here’s a little look at some of them.
I also decided on what fabrics I was going to use, I new I was ted to incorporate one of my textiles designs so I choose this to be only shown when the top skirt is up. I also wanted to go for a traditional colour for the Dirndl so I have gone for a blue and then a white blouse.
