15th-19th January - Continuing experiments for pattern crazy!!

Carrying on with our assignment of pattern crazy we where creating more experiments, this week we where doing heat press. I have already done this experiment before in year 1 so it was pretty straight forward in knowing the process. When painting the paper to put onto the fabric, I really wanted to focus on being abstract which to me meant big, curved lines and shapes. I think this worked really well and make some abstract pieces, another thing I liked is that I tried using several paintbrushes at a time which helped create a 3D look adding to the abstract look.

I really enjoyed the heat press experiments because of how vibrant the colours are, this is something I might consider using for my final repeated pattern.

Developing on from the leggings we had created we started thinking about the different type of trouser styles and we created mini patterns for them with our mini blocks. To help us understand how there created for if we wanted to use them as our final garment for the assignment. My faviourite style was the flare from the mid calf, I really like how this looks on someone and can be created out of many different fabrics. I also really liked the baggy jeans look so maybe using one of them in my garment.

Our class also had a discussion of whether or not the suit we have to create at the end of the assignment has to be a traditional suit and the answer was no! Which I think I definitely will be doing a non- traditional look, but is something to bare in mind.
